More than Just another Plant Nursery

Our small family homestead is located in North central Florida.  When we started out, our property was noting but turkey oaks, scrub brush, sand spurs, and lots of sugar white sand. We have slowly been growing our homestead into a more sustainable food forest over the last decade. My wife focuses on the Animals (read her blog here) while I focus on the plants and our nursery.

When we started, friends, family and neighbors all told us we couldn’t grow anything in sand or that we were too far south to grow traditional fruit. What we found was a lack of nurseries dedicated to serving growing zones like ours. Not that we couldn’t grow these trees, they just weren’t widely available. When people would ask where I got my trees and where they could find them, it wasn’t always an easy answer. Our tropical plants are primarily sub-species that are more frost hardy than ones found in other nurseries. Our non-tropical varieties are, again, special varieties developed for warm weather climates.

Sugar Hill Nursery was founded to help families like mine and yours to lower the cost of living in a world where putting good healthy food on the table has become increasingly more expensive. We want to help as many people as we can to grow healthy and productive plants that will give back for many years to come.
